Battipaglia – Via Roma (2)

Two days after taking Battipaglia, Italy, the commander of Operation Avalanche, General Clark visited the town with airforce commander of the Middle Sea General Sir Arthur Tedder. The yellow building behind the leaves was there in 1943 and is still there.

Paestum (3) – Temple of Neptune

American maintenance, supply and medical services had their Headquarters at Paestum after going on land from the beaches of Paestum. The staff headquarters of the 480th harbour batallion was located in the Temple of Neptune.
