  1. The soldier at the back is my grandpa, David Mills. He rarely spoke about his time in World War II and didn’t claim his medals until my mother encouraged him to do so when he was well into his seventies.
    He was survived by twin daughters, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren (only two of whom were born before he died). My son (now 22, about the same age as Grandpa was in this picture) is travelling to Kranenburg this year to stand on the same spot.
